Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
On Sunday, Alan Cumming, 59, arrived at the 2024 Emmy Awards wearing an outfit that was right in line with his signature “Traitors” style.
Stepping out in a beige jacket and black kilt by Teddy Vonranson, the Peacock show’s host continued to pay homage to his Scottish heritage by layering a green and red tartan shirt underneath, with a black and white tie to match.
The bold piece featured an extra bit of material that wrapped around the actor’s body and casually hung over his arm.
While tartan prints have been a mainstay in Cumming’s “Traitors” wardrobe, the look managed to draw comparisons to Taylor Swift, who recently showed up at the 2024 MTV VMAs wearing a yellow plaid corset dress by Dior.
“The bitch stole my look,” the musical theater star joked to People, addressing their similar taste in fashion.
“In the next season there’s a look I have that’s very similar, but I think it’s hilarious that so many people said ‘Taylor Swift looks like Alan Cumming,’ which is a sentence I never thought I would hear.”
The comparison also prompted Cumming to call out Swift’s punk look on social media, posting side-by-side photos in a meme that read “I’m Taylor Swift and welcome to The Traitorsssss”
“Ahem, @taylorswift,” Cumming wrote in his Instagram caption, tagging the pop star.
“This was my first thought you’re her style inspo,” one fan wrote in the comments.
“So the Easter egg she had with that outfit is that she is a contestant on an upcoming season?” another asked.
The reality competition show, which is currently available to stream on Peacock, features a new group of celebrities each season, with the forthcoming third season featuring Tom Sandoval, Chrishell Stause, Sam Asghari and more.
The game involves strategy, mystery, “murder,” of course, drama — all elements that led to “The Traitors” taking home its first Emmy in 2024 for the outstanding reality competition program category.
Cumming previously won on his own, nabbing a trophy for outstanding host for a reality or reality competition program at the Creative Arts Emmys.
“We are so grateful because we are a new show — and you guys, you know when you like something, you tend to stick to it, which is a good quality — but we appreciate it all the more,” Cumming said during Sunday’s speech, referencing the fact that there has only been two seasons of the series, which was recently renewed for a forth and fifth installment.
Cumming has already hinted at what to expect with his outfits for the new season, telling TV Insider that each episode’s look revolves around a theme.
“They kind of did this type of thing of matching my outfits to the missions this year,” he explained.
“I don’t normally dress like this. The costume adds so much to it. Of course, this plot of the show is so dramatic and theatrical that I just have to go with it like that.”
Look what you made him do!
