The Kansas City Chiefs have the best record in the National Football League, but even they desperately need a boost right now.
Kansas City is 6-0 on the season, but its wide receiver room is dealing with a plethora of injuries. The Chiefs somehow have found ways to win games, but the offense hasn’t looked the same this year.
The Chiefs need to find a way to add another playmaker to the mix, and The Athletic predicted that Kansas City will be “buyers” this fall ahead of the trade deadline, with Nate Taylor mentioning Carolina Panthers star Diontae Johnson.”
“Kansas City Chiefs: Buyers,” Taylor said. “Yes, the Chiefs are the league’s lone undefeated team. But general manager Brett Veach has to help increase the margin of error for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense by trading for a receiver as soon as possible ahead of the deadline. There are plenty of options available, too, including Diontae Johnson, Demarcus Robinson and Darius Slayton.
“Compensation shouldn’t be an issue either, as the Chiefs have two 2025 third-round picks, the higher one from the Titans. Although Mahomes prevailed against the 49ers, the Chiefs likely cannot have tight end Noah Gray as their leading receiver.”
Johnson has had a bounce-back season so far this year with the Panthers and has 30 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns. He has shined for Carolina but is on the last season of a two-year, $36 million deal. He doesn’t seem to have a long-term home in Carolina. Don’t be surprised if he gets moved.
