There’s nothing more frustrating on a cold winter's morning than getting into your car to go to work, only to find the windows are all fogged up.
As drivers will know, wiping the windows or blasting the air con often makes the problem worse, with tell-tale streaks restricting the view.

Thankfully, a clever and simple hack to combat the problem has gone viral on TikTok – and it costs less than £10. Social media user @allukreviews has shared a ‘life saving’ trick to beat misty car windows in winter.
In the TikTok tutorial, he places dehumidifiers on the window ledge of his car to prevent cloudy windows the next morning.

“All you want to do is throw them [the dehumidifiers] on your dashboard and they’re going to soak up all of the moisture and the condensation from inside, stopping you from having to mess about wiping the inside of your windscreen in the morning,” he says in the clip. “The damp is actually bad for your car.”
The budget dehumidifiers in question have received thousands of rave reviews on Amazon too with shoppers hailing them an ‘absolute game changer’.
One five-star review reads, “In the colder months, I’ve suffered with awful water on the inside of my screen. Every morning, I’d spend a good 15 minutes waiting for it to clear. With this product, it is now pleasantly easy to just leave in the morning and I only use one at a time in my Golf.”

Another happy customer wrote, “I own a Nissan Juke and come winter, it has a tendency to mist up inside in the morning. Nuisance would be an understatement. These are an absolute game changer.”
Why does my car windscreen fog up in winter?
"Cars fog over during winter due to the temperature difference between the cold exterior and the warmer, moisture-filled air inside the vehicle," Ivan Wu, Quality Engineer in Motoring at Halfords, says.

"When people in the car breathe, talk, or bring in moisture (from wet clothing or snow), it produces water vapour in the atmosphere which results in condensation when it comes into contact with cold windows."
How does the viral car dehumidifier work?
The car dehumidifier everyone is talking about is designed to be used all year round in cars, caravans, and motorhomes. Filled with natural granules, it will absorb any excess moisture and condensation from the air, helping to reduce the buildup of fog on your windscreen.

It’s great value for money too, as it can be used time and time again. All you need to do is dry the dehumidifier out on a radiator, in an airing cupboard or in a microwave at 600W for no more than six minutes.
A heat sensitive indicator will change from pink (hot) to blue (cold) when it needs to be recharged.
Where to buy a dehumidifier for your car this winter
The viral Hillington Reusable Car Interior Dehumidifier Bags are currently available to buy on Amazon for £9.99 whilst a pack of two comes in at £17.99.
If TikTok has taught us anything, it’s that we’re all living the same lives, and this is a hack that will make Monday mornings a little easier.
