Funeral home issues apology after dead body falls from hearse and into traffic

A funeral home has apologised after a dead body fell out of one of their hearses into traffic.

Hades Funeral Service, based in Poland, was transporting a body through Stalowa Wola when a corpse slipped out of the vehicle unexpectedly.

A man who was driving down the road thought he had hit someone, Polish media reports.

He said he saw a sheet on the window of his car and when it slid down he saw a body lying on the road. Momentarily he feared the worst.

This comes after an image of the dead body lying flat on a pedestrian crossing was shared on social media.

Taking 'full responsibility' for the incident, Hades Funeral Service has since issued an apology.

The company said they are offering support to family members during this difficult time and promise that an incident like this won't happen again.

Hades ultimately blamed the error on 'an unexpected technical failure' on the vehicle's lock.

"It is with deep regret that we inform you that, as a result of an unexpected technical failure of the electric tailgate latch in the hearse, an unfortunate incident occurred during the transportation of the body of a deceased person, which does not reflect the high standards of our company," they said.

"We admit our mistake and take full responsibility for what happened.

"Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased, whom we informed immediately after the incident.

"We remain in constant contact with the family of the deceased, offering all possible support.

"Our most important goal is to help families through the most difficult times in their lives, and this situation is deeply moving for us and our entire team is deeply affected by it.

"We will do everything we can to ensure that this type of incident does not happen again in the future."

The company also noted that the hearse was driven by an experienced employee who wanted to apologise for the incident.

"We have taken immediate steps to ensure this does not happen again, including a full technical inspection of our vehicles and additional training for our staff," they added.

On their website, Hades say their available services take responsibility for all 'activities related to the burial of corpses'.

"We are aware of how many responsibilities fall on the shoulders of the family whose member has died," the company said.

"Conclusions, death certificate, formalities, documentation and many other inconveniences do not facilitate this extremely painful period."
