Jason Kelce Breaks Silence on Person Calling Travis Kelce a Homophobic Slur

Jason Kelce revealed what led to him smashing a man’s phone on Nov. 2 after the man had referred to Travis Kelce by a homophobic slur for dating Taylor Swift.

Jason Kelce is sharing his side of the story.

Days after the former Philadelphia Eagles player was seen smashing the phone of a man who allegedly called his brother Travis Kelce a homophobic slur, Jason is detailing his thoughts on the confrontation.

“I’m not happy with anything that took place. I’m not proud of it,” Jason said on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown Nov. 4. “And in a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that that’s a productive thing.”

“I don’t think that it leads to discourse and it’s the right way to go about things,” he explained. “In that moment, I fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have. So, I think the bottom line is, I try to live my life by the golden rule—it’s what I’ve always been taught—I try to treat people with common decency and respect, and I’m going to keep doing that moving forward, even though I fell short this week.”

Jason added, “I’m going to do that moving forward.”

The incident occurred on Nov. 2 outside Penn State University’s Beaver Stadium. As the 36-year-old explained, a man started to heckle him in regard to Travis’ relationship with Taylor Swift.

“Kelce,” the man yelled out to him, “how does it feel that your brother is a [homophobic slur] for dating Taylor Swift?”

In videos shared on X at the time, Jason could be seen turning around and appeared to take the person’s phone out of their hands and smashing it to the ground and then picking it up before walking away. In the videos it was not clear if the man whose phone he smashed was the same one who yelled the slur, according to NBC News.

This latest encounter was hardly the first time Jason has experienced a tense fan interaction. In May, he and wife Kylie Kelce—with whom he shares children Wyatt, 5, Elliotte, 3, and Bennett, 20 months—were berated by a woman in a New Jersey parking lot who badgered the couple for a photo.

In videos that were circulating at the time, the woman could be heard telling Jason and Kylie that they “will never be allowed in this town again.”

In response, Kylie, 32, was heard telling the woman, “I can smell the alcohol on your breath. You’re embarrassing yourself.”

Shortly after the incident, the woman—who publicly identified herself as Andreé Goldberg—issued an apology to the couple.

“In a heated moment, I said things that were out of character for me and that I regret, and for that, I am sorry,” she told WPVI in a May statement. “My anger, and my actions, are not who I am, and certainly not indicative of the welcoming community of Margate. As an adult and proud member of my community, I should have recognized and respected their right to privacy from the onset.”

According to Andreé, she had reached out to Jason and Kylie privately, but wanted to share her apology publicly as well.

“I am deeply appreciative of the grace and understanding shown to me by the Kelces,” she added, “and wish them nothing but the best.”
