Indiana Fever took down the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night led by an outstanding performance from Caitlin Clark. Posting a stat line of 20 points, 13 assists, and six rebounds, Clark reached another historic feat.
She became the first rookie in WNBA history to record 400+ points, 100+ rebounds, and 150+ assists in a season. This accomplishment has led to a lot of buzz online for Clark.
However, this wasn’t the only reason she went viral against the Mercury.
One of Clark’s best plays of the game, was an incredibly good shot over Mercury and WNBA legend, Brittney Griner. evel of play is simply unheard of from a rookie, even by the NBA’s standards.Clark’s play has led to comparisons to NBA legends such as Steph Curry and Wilt Chamberlain.
It’ll be incredible to continue to watch her grow as a player and a leader as she progresses through her career.Because there are just 144 WNBA roster spots available, competition is extremely fierce for players to earn (and keep) their position on a team.
It’s notoriously difficult for second round draft picks to make their respective squad before the season begins. In 2024, only four rookies drafted in the second round made their team:
Dyaisha Fair and Kate Martin from the Las Vegas Aces, Celeste Taylor for the Indiana Fever, and Nika Muhl for the Seattle Storm.
