Travis Kelce’s streak of recording at least 900 receiving yards in eight straight seasons is in serious jeopardy this year.
Kelce has just eight catches for 69 yards through three games. He hasn’t received more than five targets in a game yet, which is somewhat of a surprise given his connection with Patrick Mahomes.
During the New York City premiere of “Grotesquerie” this week, Kelce’s mother, Donna, spoke to the public about her son’s rough start to the season.
As you’d expect, Donna Kelce defended her son from all the critics.
“It’s tough, it really is,” Donna admit, via People Magazine. “You know, I don’t think they realize the pressure that people are under, whether they’re athletes or professionals that are in front of the camera. And it’s just very difficult, there’s a lot of things going on behind the scenes.
“You don’t realize how many times people are trying to keep you from catching the ball, or trying to trip you up or hit you… so it’s kinda hard when you’ve got people that are in your face 24/7.”
Last week, Kelce took full accountability for his slow start to the 2024 season. He also talked about all the factors that have led to his sudden dip in production.
“I put that on me,” the All-Pro tight end said. “If you want to catch the football, it has to be the right play, it has to be the right coverage, and it has to be everybody doing their job up front and on the back end in terms of running their routes.”
Kelce will try to have a statement game this Sunday when the Chiefs take on the injury-plagued Los Angeles Chargers.
